Fill in the _____ Friday

23 Sep
  1. The best thing I did all week was… yoga class. The regular teacher was away and the teacher who filled in did this super slow-paced class that was so much better for my poor back than rushing from one pose to the next. Best I’ve felt in two years.
  2. Bright colours … make me super happy. (I have intense pink nails right now, just so they can cheer me up when I look down at my keyboard!)
  3. Pets are… one of the best things in the world. As much trouble as my cats cause, I am so glad we have them. It’s nice to be able to cuddle them whenever you want – but even better when they crawl in your lap or curl up on your pillow and purr you to sleep. It’s amazing how much happiness such little, furry creatures can bring.
  4. Relative stability … is the best thing about my life. I have a great boyfriend, wonderful cats, a really nice place to live and a steady job that I love and feel like I might actually be good at. Now if only transit weren’t such a mess…
  5. With the cooler weather I am looking forward to… cosy sweaters, the big down blanket, hot chocolate and scarves!
  6. Something that’s on my “wish list” right now is… a really good pair of rain boots. The wet season has started!
  7. This weekend I am going to… work, unfortunately. I have a few articles to finish, so OT for me! Oh well, at least I get some time off to take at Christmas! On the plus side, a bunch of my favourite shows are back, and a few new ones have started, so there will be some good TV to catch up on  – Supernatural, Fringe, Alcatraz, and of course the super long Grey’s Anatomy season opener!

As always, thanks to Lauren at The Little Things We Do for the blanks!

19 Sep

First of all, let me say sorry it’s a few days late! I have been having computer problems (namely the damn thing doesn’t want to start up or let me do anything for more than 5 minutes without crashing) which has put a crimp in even the best of blogging intentions. Hopefully I’ll be back on track this week!

  1. You should always take time to… breathe. Okay, obviously we all breathe all the time, otherwise we’d be dead, so shut up you smartasses. You know what I mean. Really breathing. The kind that goes right to the tip of your toes and that you feel with your entire being. I know I often breathe less deeply when I’m busy, stressed or annoyed (like on transit) and after a little while I feel like I’m hyperventilating! Breathing deeply is the one most useful thing I have learned from yoga class, and something that I still need to work on doing more often!
  2. Small acts of kindness… make the world a happier place to be.
  3. I can hardly wait for… my boss to get back from vacation. She’s only been gone two days and already I feel frazzled! I welcome the opportunity to take on more responsibility and really put my head down and work hard, but I’ll still be relieved when this month is over!
  4. Saturday… is my favourite day of the week. Actually, I know it’s not really a day of the week and doesn’t happen every week – but any day that I am supposed to be working and am not is my favourite. It’s like found time. Unless I’m sick. Then not so much.
  5. Something totally dumb and ridiculous that I love is… how to pick just one?? Okay, I love Bridget Jones’ Diary. The book and the movie, but more often the movie. I don’t know what it is – perhaps the combination of a main character who ends up in ridiculous situations (as we all do, if not quite so dramatically), the British accents, and England as the backdrop that make it incredibly comforting. Or maybe it’s that I watched it a lot during a year that was both really difficult and turned out to be a really good life change. I know it’s not great cinema. But whatever the reason, I always find it makes me feel very cosy and at home.
  6. If I could, I would… spend my life learning new skills and information.
  7. I rather like… the feeling of Autumn in the air. Most people out there would probably shoot me for saying this, but I don’t really like Summer all that much. It’s too hot and muggy, and I enjoy wearing layers and not having to worry if I haven’t waxed my legs. I like that it’s still sunny out there, but a little cooler and not yet raining. Gorgeous.

Thanks again to Lauren at The Little Things We Do for the blanks – even if I’m a little late on filling them in this week! 🙂

  1. Somewhere someone is… the happiest they’ve ever been.
  2. Great music, art, deeds and conversation …are my muse.
  3. It would suck if… cheap, unlimited internet …was no more because… there’s so much you can do and learn with it! At this point I honestly don’t think I could live without it.
  4. The quiet, empty office …is/are my favourite thing about today.
  5. Life is kind of like… a box of chocolates. Just kidding. It’s a lot of waiting around punctuated by occasional feelings of accomplishment.
  6. If I could have anything I wanted, I would want… to be healthy and happy… whatever that ends up looking like.
  7. A funny thing that happened the other day… hmmm. It hasn’t been a particularly funny week. Probably something a cat did.

  1. One thing that is completely superfluous, but I could never give up is… my iPod. I absolutely could not retain my sanity with my current commute if I didn’t have m iPod. It’s what stops me from punching people.
  2. “Networking”…makes me feel awkward.
  3. I can’t… get through the day …without… checking my email and spending some time surfing the net.
  4. Almonds …are my favourite snack.
  5. Lately I’ve been… trying to make positive changes. I actually started going to yoga this week for the first time in two years (since back surgery)! And survived!
  6. If at first you don’t succeed… ask for help or have a beer and figure it out later.
  7. Fall is… either sad or a relief, depending how hot the summer was and how balmy the fall is.

Thanks, as always, to Lauren at The Little Things We Do for the blanks!

  1. One of life’s most simple pleasures is… getting into bed at night after a long, busy day. That feeling that you don’t need to worry about anything until tomorrow is golden!
  2. Waiting on hold for eleventy billion years when I call to make a doctor’s appointment… I’m not naturally a patient person, so of course it can easily make me grumpy. But I try to remind myself that for every minute I’m on hold, that’s probably another half hour that the doctor has to work helping someone, and to be grateful that usually I’m just trying to get a checkup rather than dealing with a major health problem.Which I’ve had in the past, so I know how horrible it is!
  3. I like… when I pick up my cat and hold him upside down and he stretches as far as his little paws can go and makes a little grunting noise… because… it makes my heart drool a little bit. This also falls under #1.
  4. Toggle… is a word I pretty much never use and feel like a bit of an idiot when I do. It’s a bit ridiculous.
  5. If I had to choose one beauty product to use for the rest of eternity, it would be… a very bad day.
  6. I’m happy that… I get to sleep in and relax all weekend!
  7. I would never… knowingly hurt someone I love.

  1. My idea of pure perfection would be… having perfect health my whole life and getting to spend it doing something I love.
  2. Laughter… is the second best feeling in the world. 😉
  3. If it weren’t for… not having any money…I’d… travel and become a photographer/writer.
  4. Bloggers are… the new creative community.
  5. If I had… a million dollars… I’d buy you… a loooooong vacation.
  6. I’m glad it’s Friday because… really, you have to ask??
  7. Something I’m excited about is… sleeping in! Of course!

  1. My most favourite birthday was… my 25th. Overall one of the best years of my life – I was at my most social, had that temporary lull between figuring out what to study in school and what to do with the rest of your life when you just have to do the work and had stumbled into about three really great groups of friends. Also my first birthday with current boyfriend (I know, “awwwww….”). Had a big party at a restaurant with lots of people. Felt like a rock star.
  2. My worst birthday was… warning: this could get depressing. It was the one after my parents split up. My mom rented out a hall and made a surprise party for me, all the people we knew were there, there was cake and a pile of presents… but it all just seemed really hollow, and all I could think was, “why isn’t my Dad here?” Yeah. It sucked.
  3. My favourite birthday memory is… see #1 above.
  4. The best birthday present I’ve ever received was… I’m pretty sure I got my first cat for my birthday. I was like 13 or 14, this was also the year after my parents split. She was such a comfort to me and, despite suffering through being named Scheherazade (Schezy for short) still seemed to like me.
  5. Birthdays are… honestly? A lot of pressure. The more of them I have, the less I like them. I always feel like I should be excited and they should be special, but really it’s just another day in the end.
  6. My favourite age so far has been… see #1 above. But I’m really hoping that at some point in the next couple of years things will come together and I’ll have a few that are even better!

Thanks, as always, to Lauren at The Little Things We Do for the blanks…and wishing her a very happy birthday! Clearly she likes them much more than I do 😉 xo

  1. My go-to outfit for a dress-up occasion like a wedding is… I don’t do weddings. Or places I need to dress up.
  2. This week has been… long, for a short week.
  3. When it’s dinnertime and I’m feeling lazy, I’ll usually eat… salad or one of Amy’s organic frozen dinners
  4. My favourite pair of shoes is… a pair of Blowfish ballet-slipper-style black shoes. They’re like my feet, but a bit less vulnerable, and they go with everything.
  5. A random item that I own that is completely unnecessary but that I couldn’t live without is… are books necessary? If not, then my books. Though I guess technically my computer isn’t necessary. I mean, it’s not like food or shelter. But I definitely couldn’t live without that.
  6. My favourite person is… not my boyfriend, obviously. 😉
  7. If I were going to write my own blank, it would say… a book that made me literally laugh out loud is… (and I’d answer with Good Omens.)

  1. My favourite colour is… black. I know, I know, technically it’s not a colour. But for something that’s not a colour, it sure goes with everything.
  2. My travel destination of choice is… Europe, Mexico or Australia.
  3. My favourite food is… I feel like I’ve answered this about 5 times for FITBF already, so I’m skipping it.
  4. My happy place is… Right now? My bed. When I’m not so tired? London or Paris. I could walk all day in either one, taking in the atmosphere, snapping pictures, people-watching… bliss.
  5. My favourite saying is… I’ll have to think about that. I don’t think I really have a favourite saying, but I do have a few favourite quotes that are sort of like sayings – things like “pray to god but row away from the rocks.” Probably one of the most useful sayings is “shit happens,” because it inevitably does.
  6. My dirty little secret is… I don’t think you guys understand the concept of a “secret.” Let me demonstrate.
  7. Something friends might say about me is that I… am fun when I’m in a good mood, can be really loud-mouthed and opinionated, definitely stubborn, loyal, will always offer to kneecap anyone who is mean to them and can’t stand anything unfair or exploitative. Also I can be really sarcastic. It’s part of my charm.

  1. One of my happiest moments ever was… lying in my backyard in the summer sun, reading and listening to music. (Until some kids came by and chucked water balloons at me, that is!)
  2. Summer is wedding season and weddings are… not my (very large) cup of vodka.
  3. This summer… has started out really slowly – not that I’m complaining since I’m rather pale and ill-equipped to handle heat waves – but it’s nice to see some sun finally peeking through the clouds in the weather forecast for the weekend!
  4. My summer food of choice has been… lots of salads. And cherries! Cherry season has finally arrived and they are so addictively delicious!
  5. My summer uniform has been… as I said, so far summer has been hit or miss, so I’m mostly in jeans still!
  6. If I could spend the entire summer in one location, I would choose… France. In the countryside where fresh baked goods are within walking distance, where the wine flows freely and where the shops are closed in the afternoon.
  7. My summer anthem is… you know me, I never can pick just one song. I’m listening a lot to new albums from some old and new favourites – Incubus, Foo Fighters, Grieves, Atmosphere. I’ve also been listening to some old hip-hop lately – Hip Hop Hooray, anyone?
